dark charisma
searching for safe harbor
been too long adrift at sea
are those beacons through a fogbank boys
or are we dying by degrees
is the call from something nearby
or just another Sony day
that keeps our thoughts collected here boys
ragged moths round a flickering flame
there’s a wheeling in the forest
grinding out the latest form
it fills our hearts with dark charisma boys
it feeds our hunger for the storm
how much rock will be required
to roll one cold wet stone aside
well, enough to make a difference boys
well, enough to let some light inside
on the walls of hope and vision
in the caves of former times
strike a spark for ancient wisdom boys
and mark the pattern with our lives
have every heart bear witness
when at last we turn the mix
and light a bright one for the great beyond boys
we know they’ll feel it when it hits

vim
i see a line of weary faces
with every heart a broken stone
the light so dim in all these places
someone compose the world a poem
you say this earth is darkly tragic
and headed for a dreadful end
perhaps it simply lost the magic
and needs your spark to glow again
turn around and face the demon
take the stand and make a case
from the darkness forge your freedom
disregard that fall from grace
lend this world your vim and vigor
shed a light beyond the stage
hold the moment, let it linger
spin your life a golden age
i see a line of beaming faces
and every heart beats out its own
the light returns to many places
someone composed the world a poem

Perfect Paradise
( the Death Deifiers )
pt 1
some say we’re causing mass extinction
you know, it’s happened many times before
a trillion species came and gone
still life returned in myriad forms
all at once an asteroid or three
global meltdown, thirty million year freeze
final countdown, the end of manatees
it’s all the same only a matter of degrees
while i fear the climate changing
most shout out, Increase the Pace!
shape the world to frame the need
stake Our claim as master race
in truth we want it all
all the glory, all command
forever been this way that
man demands the upper hand
and yet we rather loathe each other
oh the spinning whorl of god eat god
tribal laws, noble clauses
histrionic hooks and claws
pay no heed to calls for intervention
lay your greed on every lower order
choke the air, burn the water
Earth will be Reborn
(pt2)
now i hear the end is near upon us
although it comes as no surprise
as we await our glorious fate
with fervent prayers sunset and rise
who said they would return
at the bleakest hour of our fears
when human hearts recoil with dread
and souls have shed a sea of tears
go pound them down your weaker neighbor
rip and tear at hearts that matter
shatter childhood, shame your sister good
let mass affliction draw the Master
give no regard to those who grieve
loved ones who won’t survive
lukewarm faith was not enough
and what is love but sacrifice
build a broken world today
then cleanse it with a fiery blade
a greater destiny awaits the few
where time stands still and nothing fades

Pater Plea
our father
who left us
with only your million names
thy kingdom suffers
thy will unknown
on Earth
and we are forsaken
shouldered each day
with this tormenting burden
we are forever enslaved
to insatiable debtors
and led by corruptors
through constant temptation
down into their spiral of evil
here is thy kingdom
dis-eased and dis-couraged
will it be this way forever, amen

The
Other Side
hard lines being drawn
between me and thee
who draws these lines
what do they know of thee and me
a warm vermillion tide
through the darkness rising
past our pillars of pride
beyond familiar lines
it’s the top of the world
this time
here, the moment’s arrived
for every one to decide
to run and hide, to ride the tide
to cast a shadow or a light
on the other side
it’s an ancient law of nature
a hardened point of matter
that shatters what we nurture
blasting human culture
a perpetual break down
through time
now, the moment's arrived
for every one to decide
to run and hide, to ride the tide
to cast a shadow or a light
on the other side
for all those who define
divine purpose thru windows
lives with no shadows
reflecting what you left behind
that shine won’t raise anyone
in time
yeah! the moment’s arrived
for every one to decide
to run and hide, to ride the tide
to cast a shadow or a light
on the other side
hard lines being drawn
between me and thee
who draws these lines
what do they know of thee and me

Set It Up
jacko’s dancing on the hood of an suv
he’s working up to a quick thrill
sister’s prancing like an amazon
she’s banking on the big spill
GI’s falling three, two, one
every day a handful
while milli vanilli’s still
pumping gas at the bar ‘n grill
set it up for the Yanks
keep our tanks full
think it over, suck back a soda
yeah! better be thankful
but keep old Gunnys' Hummers
on guard down in Banksville
‘cause our hummers sip yummy honey
from the edge of river banks
still
your column lines
have come to amaze me
spin a curve on every word
it never ceases to enrage me
yet
every time i flip my lid i feel a quick chill
i’ll shut it down when i find the handle
can’t keep quiet if you are the needle
you need a fire when you light a candle
on a latter note we better be mindful
empire to the south got a new handbill
mortgage your freedom every time you stand still
take it to the highest court, take it to the land
fill
set it up for the Yanks
gotta keep our banks full
hedge your bets, pay your vets
always be thankful
last spin of the roulette set
don’t say i didn’t warn you
think it over, suck back a soda
yeah! better
be born here
this border line’s so long and thin
you’d think a yank or two could break it
i would not doubt they've tried it out
we better thank the few who made it

Before
we stand in lines beyond a distance
strung in ragged tags along the rail
with eyes that hold an ancient sorrow
yet strain to pierce the darkling veil
before our lives were tithed to breaking
before the days became the same
we sang our hearts with every rising
we bowed toward each passing flame
before we fell to grim ambition
before the walls closed in behind
we made our mark by leaving none
we gave no heed to fate or time
before the casual indifference
before the numbers took their toll
we counted stars to see us through
we held their promise to our soul
before the lines beyond a distance
before the dark descending veil
we ran free without resistance
we let the wind define the sail
beyond the crumbling ivory towers
the ruddy ash, the scattered dreams
we walk on silent fields of morning
we breathe in ancient memories

Halfway Home
here in a tower of stone
cold echoes of ancient chords
i don’t remember the tune
it rose all thru ‘81
peaked at 22, then it was gone
these days are rolled up in that song
we were gathering stones
round and flat of the sort
that like to be thrown
low and fast from the banks
of Yesterdays' Pond
skipping stones thru the calm
we would pick the one
hold it in our palm
long enough to know its' roll
then wing it halfway home
we move away from a storm
dark and fierce of the sort
that tears sinew from bone
that rips the hearth
from timber and stone
that leaves no soul untorn
if we would gather them up
hold them in our arms
long enough to mend them all
they’d be halfway home
but who remembers the song
what it meant in ‘81
what was sweet, what was spun
they say it peaked at 22
then it was gone
these days are rolled up in that song
when you hear its’ call
hold it to your heart
long enough to know it all
you’ll be halfway home
~~~~~~(slg)~~~~~~
redcoat
can you see me in the early morning light
regal red on misty hills of rolling green
do you hear the call of the heartsong
from the edge of the chasm
or the choking madness
at the end of a dream
i crouch in shadows
all ragged and weary
and watch from the hedgerow
the lines being drawn
the bay of the dogs and
their thundering companions
all shrill and demanding
their line's coming on
i wish i could run like hell
across these golden fields
see my shadow dancing
with the rising moon
but all i've got
is no more tricks
to throw them off my tail
at the edge of the chasm
at the end of my dream
